This week is Parent/Teacher Conference week. These are mandatory conferences for everyone. You don't need an appointment, just come and see the teachers individually. Students need to be there also. I am looking forward to to seeing all of you.
Since this week our classes are 30 min. long, and I am not here on Thursday and Friday, you are doing some different things 9/2 - Labor Day - No school 9/3-4 - We will continue with the 1.7 Functions lesson, and practice for better understanding. No homework 9/5 - 1.8 Interpreting Graphs of Functions 9/6 - End of Chapter Study Guide and Review pg. 62 - 64 odd problems. Here are the happenings for this week:

Have a great weekend! This week in algebra, we will be working on the Mathematical Practices to help us think deeper in a problem. These skills will help them as Algebra gets more difficult to learn how to break each problem down.
This class is taught at a high school level, but if students are having trouble with some of the basic skills necessary our book has a zero chapter that goes over all of the skills necessary. Students can come after school to get help with these skills if necessary. This class will be using a TI-83 or TI-84 calulator. These are expensive calculators (about $100 new), but these can be used in the high school math classes, our state AZmerit tests, and on the SAT and ACT tests as they get closer to college. If your child can not get one, I do have some to share with each other. The textbooks will be coming home soon. Unfortunatley, the books are in ill repair, so I will be repairing them this week for student use. This week will be mostly working on classroom procedures, and working in groups. We will be practicing problem solving skills, so everyone is ready to tackle the math skills of this high school level class. We will be learning how to work in groups using group norms.
We are starting the AZmerit writing test this week. The 5th grade tests on Monday, 6h on Tuesday, Wednesday is a 1/2 day so no testing, 7th grade on Thursday, and 8th grade is on Friday. Remember that while the other grades are testing, ALL other students MUST be quiet during passing periods. There will be AZmerit testing for 3 weeks. The 8th grade AIMS Science test will be Friday the 13th. 7th and 8th grades will have their AZmerit Reading and Math tests the week of the 16th - 20th.
